Trust for Africa's Orphans: Zoo Art Fair

The Trust for Africa's Orphans obtained and ran a stall for four days at the yearly Zoo Art Fair held at London Zoo in October 2006. The fair showcases the work of emerging contemporary art talent and is now in its third year. The venue was a 1200 square metre marquee which hosted a total of 46 burgeoning commercial and non-commercial arts organisations, galleries, project spaces, artist collectives, curatorial groups and publications. Arts organisations are represented from the UK and also from Berlin, Los Angeles and Mexico. Zoo Art Fair is a non-profit enterprise, sponsored by established collectors, galleries, arts businesses and public funders. Visitor numbers at this year's fair were around 11,500 providing a great promotional opportunity for the charity.

The charity's stall, manned by Trustees and TAO Volunteers, provided information on the ongoing projects in Africa as well as hand-outs and leaflets. The main objective was, of course, to fundraise and by a way of a mixture of donations and purchases of special TAO London Art Fair badges, a total of £4,000 was raised.

For collectors, curators, critics, dealers, artists and art enthusiasts, the Zoo Art Fair remains a considered introduction to the next generation of art talent and an in-depth survey of their emerging markets. We were also able to add a charitable dimension to the fair and raise much needed revenue for our projects and administrative expenses.
