Want to change the lives of thousands? Join TAO’s committed and effective UK Board or volunteer with us.
So that every possible pound goes to support orphans, vulnerable children and impoverished communities in Uganda, TAO operates on a minimal budget, with only two staff in the UK. Our Trustees / Directors therefore play a very hands-on role in overseeing our finances and operations, and leading our strategic decisions.
We are currently recruiting for two specific Trustee / Director posts. But if you are interested in supporting TAO, either as a Trustee or a volunteer, but don’t feel you bring the following specific skills or can commit as detailed below, please do get in touch – there are plenty of ways you could help us. We would be particularly interested if you bring Monitoring & Evaluation skills or fundraising experience.

Two Trustee/Directors sought: Treasurer & Agricultural expert
We are seeking experienced individuals to replace two long-standing Trustees / Directors who are retiring.
You will have expertise in finance and accounting matters and knowledge of the Sage accounting system, combined with experience of business management in an African context. You need the ability to strike the right balance between ensuring necessary financial controls and providing suitable challenge to drive improvements, and appreciating the reality of business and financial operations in Uganda. As the bulk of our expenditure is project funding, a key aspect of the Treasurer’s role is oversight of the expenditure by our Ugandan partner organisations.
Role and application details: TAO Trustee and Treasurer role description, 2016
You will need to be able to help develop project plans and prepare winning fundraising proposals. You will also provide oversight, challenge and input to ensure the effective implementation of projects by our African partners. Experience of African agriculture and working with African organisations is therefore essential for this role. You should understand the agricultural and sustainable development issues, and the operation of agri-businesses in Africa, ideally Uganda or central Africa.
Role and application details: Agricultural Trustee role description, 2016
For each of these roles you will need to be able to:
- Attend 5-6 Board meetings per year, held during working hours either in Hersham, Surrey, or central London
- Meet with the staff in the Hersham offices during working hours, as needed.
- Visit the projects in Uganda for 1-2 weeks every few years.
Unfortunately we are not currently recruiting for paid posts.
TAO has only two staff members and is not normally able to manage the work of volunteers. However, if you are interested in fundraising for us in any other ways, please see our great fundraising ideas and/or contact Joy Mugisha on 01932 269877 or by emailing info @ trustforafricasorphans.org.uk (please remove the spaces before emailing).
